Comprehensive Car Insurance (Kasko)

What is kasko?

Kasko is optional comprehensive motor insurance that covers damage to your own vehicle according to the policy terms. Compulsory traffic insurance only pays for damage you cause to others; kasko protects your own car against collision, fire, theft and similar events.

The two do not replace each other: traffic insurance is a legal requirement, kasko protects the value of your vehicle. We help you choose the kasko package that fits your car’s age, how you use it and your budget.

What does kasko cover?

Cover depends on the insurer and the package you choose. Kasko policies typically include:

  • Damage from your vehicle hitting, colliding, overturning or falling
  • Fire, lightning and explosion
  • Theft or attempted theft of the vehicle or its parts
  • Malicious acts of third parties

Optional covers, depending on the package: earthquake, flood, terrorism, glass breakage, excess liability (İMM), personal accident, legal protection, replacement car and minor repairs. We show you exactly which covers are in your policy when we prepare the quote.

What is not covered?

  • Situations excluded in the policy and optional covers you did not add
  • Damage in circumstances excluded by the policy terms, such as driving under the influence of alcohol or without a valid licence
  • Wear and tear or breakdowns caused by lack of maintenance
  • The deductible (the amount you pay yourself), if your policy has one

Exclusions are written in the insurer’s general and special conditions. Before you sign, we go through the most important ones with you.

How are the insured value and the premium set?

The kasko value is the market value used when the vehicle is damaged or stolen. It is based on the kasko value list published regularly by the Insurance Association of Türkiye (TSB).

The main factors in the premium are:

  • Make, model, model year and kasko value of the vehicle
  • Type of use (private or commercial) and the province where the vehicle is registered
  • Your no-claims level (kasko has its own no-claims discount, separate from traffic insurance)
  • Optional covers, the deductible and whether you choose contracted repair shops

You see the exact premium in the quotes we prepare for your vehicle from several insurers.

Contracted repair shop or your own choice?

Some kasko packages require repairs at the insurer’s contracted repair shops; these packages are usually more affordable. If you want repairs at an authorised dealer or a workshop of your choice, you need a package that allows it. Whether original or equivalent parts are used also depends on the package; we set out these differences clearly when comparing quotes.

What we need for a quote

  • The registered owner’s Turkish ID number (tax number for company vehicles); foreign residents can use their foreign resident ID number
  • Licence plate number and vehicle registration certificate (ruhsat) serial and document number
  • Your current kasko policy and its expiry date, if any (your no-claims discount carries over)
  • Details of any added equipment (sound system, rims, etc.)

Frequently asked questions

Is kasko compulsory?

No, kasko is optional. However, if you bought your car with a loan or leasing, the lender may require kasko for the duration of the loan.

What is the difference between kasko and traffic insurance?

Traffic insurance is compulsory and covers damage you cause to others. Kasko is optional and covers damage to your own vehicle according to the policy terms. For full protection, the two are considered together.

How does the kasko no-claims discount work?

Claim-free policy periods reduce your kasko premium. Periods in which you made a claim and received payment reduce the discount. If you switch insurers, your earned discount can usually be carried over.

What should I do after an accident?

First make sure everyone is safe, call the police or gendarmerie if needed, fill in the accident report form with the other party and take photos. Then call us, and we will report the claim and arrange the repair shop together.

Can older cars get kasko?

Yes, many insurers offer kasko for older models too. As the car gets older, options and covers may change; we compare the suitable packages for your vehicle.
